PLATINUM JUBILEE REUNION 2009
AT RABINDRA SADAN AND SCIENCE CITY
Your Reunion programme of 2009 will have a different venue outside Medical College. Why did we have to shift out? The new Medical College Building which is comining up in front of the old College Building has made the venue of our Pandal impossible. This prompted a decision to change the venue . The Inauguration will be held at Rabindra Sadan on 28th January 2009 and on the following two days the programme will be held at Science City. Some of the traditional Reunion Scientific Programme will continue to be held in the Campus but on different dates (please see the CME Calendar). The entertainment programme will be held at the Science City Auditorium. The Inauguration of the Reunion will be held on 28th January 2009 at the Rabindra Sadan from 4:30 pm. The Reunion Tea Party will be held on 29th January 2009 from 4 pm at the Science City.
Change is necessary for us to move on. Our President Dr Debasis Sanyal and our Hony Secretary Dr Gautam Khastagir are leaving no stones unturned in this Herculean task. They are being ably supported by the Executive Committee and the various Subcommittees of the Reunion Committee. We need your full support as our beloved MATIYA programme undertakes a journey of change.
A TRAUMA CENTRE AND A CANCER CENTRE AT MEDICAL COLLEGE
Medical College is poised for an ambitious expansion programme. This was briefed to the Reunion Committee members by Dr Indrajit Roy, Principal Medical College. An Apex Trauma Centre for this part of the country would come up in the CB Building. Necessary infrastructure upgradations such as passage for ambulance are already under way.
The other expansion would be in the area of Oncology. A Cancer Centre is being shaped along with dedicated Oncosurgery and Oncopathology Units. The Radiotherapy facility available with the College is also being upgraded. All this means that a lot of construction activity is scattered over the college campus.
CME ROUND THE YEAR
The CME arranged by the MCESA in Medical College are now scheduled all round the year. Chairman Dr Siddhartha Chakrabarty and Convener Dr Dipanjan Bandopadhyaya are encouraged by the keen interest which these CMEs have evoked. It draws students not only from our College but also from other Institutions. The range of topics covered in these programmes range from Total Parentral Nutrition to Neuro-otology. The overwhelming response of these CMEs have motivated the Committee to plan for
CME on a national level. Round the year CME includes Dr N.R. Konar Memorial Symposium and Dr R.N.Chowdhury Memorial Symposium.

STORM AT REUNION COMMITTEE MEET OVER SHIFT OF VENUE
The Reunion Committee meeting held at GLT on 12'" September 2008 had some heated debate over the change of venue. Dr Sudeb Sanyal echoed the sentiments of MCESA members of North Bengal - the venue should continue to be at good old Medical College Campus. MCESA President Dr Debasis Sanyal took pains to explain to the House that the construction activity inside Medical College meant that there was simply no space for Reunion Pandal. The other choice before the Committee was to shift the programme to the top floor of the Administrative Building which houses the Examination Hall. But climbing the stairs might be
tricky for Senior members. Add to it the woes of insufficient parking space. Dr Indrajit Roy, Principal Medical College had earlier explained the exciting developments in the College which necessitated these constructions. At the end every body reconciled to a change of venue.
REUNION TEA PARTY
Ask any Medical College Ex-student about which programme he considers to be the star attraction of the Reunion Programme ? The answer would definitely be "The Reunion Tea Party". A January evening tea with your college friends, with a live band in attendance is always a pleasant experience. Then there is the Reunion Lottery whose results have been announced by Dr Mahabir Singh for as long as we can remember. This year the Tea Party would be held at Science City. So be there to
make the Tea Party a memorable event. There would be ample space to make it comfortable for batches to sit together in groups.
